There is a distinct lack of blogging in the illustration/animation world these days. Maybe I’m playing the cliché millenial to be nostalgic for the golden days of Blogger, but I’ll own up to that stereotype. I really miss it. It felt more personable; something is lost in the short formats of Instagram and Twitter.
In the spirit of being the change I’d like to see in the world, I decided that it was high time that I get back to blogging. Expect this to be a jumble of sketches, thoughts, and life updates.
In perhaps the biggest life update I’ve experienced in 6 years, I’m moving to a new city this week. Well, sort of. I have called Los Angeles my home since the fall of 2014, but I am relocating to Detroit, MI to join the illustration faculty at College for Creative Studies. (The reasoning for such a big change will have to be the subject for another post) Being that everything is topsy-turvy these days, my partner and dog will be holding onto our apartment in Burbank while I live out of an Airbnb in Detroit for 3 months before returning to California at Thanksgiving. Long story short, I get to go on not one, but TWO solo road trips across the country this fall!
I have shifted between excitement and exhaustion when it comes to sketching and doing studies in the midst of COVID-19, working from home, and planning a cross-country move, but here are a few highlights from this past summer. More to come!
